Whole House Carbon Filter

CATALYTIC/GAC/KDF CARBON Filter

Whole House Carbon with Water Softener and Whole House Sediment

Did you know showering in chlorinated water is never recommended? Most of our new customers think hard water is the cause of their skin and hair issues. The truth is that, it is the Chloramines and their toxic byproducts such as THMs, Trihalomethanes. Chloramines are more toxic, less effective, and harder to remove than chlorinated water. Enjoy high quality water for bathing to stop hair loss, itchy dry skin, eczema, rashes, and many more through the Whole House Carbon Filter that filters the water for your entire home at every single faucet and shower head.

Several EPA reports states that children are at a higher risk of absorbing chemicals especially during bath time for various reasons. One being that Children have bodies that are still developing; therefore, have a greater surface area to body weight ration than adults. Another is because they love to enjoy long bath and play sessions. A warm shower or bath will open the pores allowing higher rates of chemical absorption.

The KDF Catalytic GAC Carbon Filter will reduce more of the chloramines than other types of carbon filters.  Carbon block filters alone, does not effectively remove chloramines.

Activated carbon has a slightly positive charge that attracts impurities, but carbon blocks has a higher contaminant removal ratio. The KDF Catalytic GAC Carbon Filter is a special combination, which effectively breaks down Chloramines. When using a combination of GAC and carbon block filters you reduce more chloramines!

The filter has up to 96-97% removal efficiency for Chlroamines at the flow rate capacity of 10-15 g.p.m. The slower the flow rate, the higher the efficiency because the water has more time in contact with the media. A typical shower or bath has a flow rate of 3 g.p.m., meaning a typical shower has longer contact time, creating higher than 97% efficiency (usually Non-Detect Levels).

The KDF water filter media extends the life of granular activated carbon (GAC) while protecting the carbon bed against fouling by bacterial growth. KDF not only significantly extends the life of GAC but is also recyclable (Hygienic, Eco-friendly). KDF also effectively removes chlorine, heavy metals, and controls microorganisms.

Our Whole House Carbon Filter System with KDF removes chloramines, many organic chemicals, and pathogens as well as chlorine from all the water entering your home. It has a NSF certified media. City Water Filter installs a blue filter housing mounted to the water line coming into your house along with the Whole House Sediment Filter.

The media components of City Water Filter products is primarily supplied by Aries FilterWorks.  They are the benchmark of  premium filtration products and are laboratory quality. They only supply NSF certified filtration from state-of-the-art facilities utilizing the most up to date technologies.

Carbon filters are very effective at removing a number of harmful chemicals. These include chlorine, benzene, radon, solvents trihalomethane compounds, volatile organic chemicals such as pesticides and herbicides and hundreds of other man-made chemicals that may come into contact with tap water as it proceeds through the system. Carbon Filters are not designed for removal of minerals (calcium & magnesium), metals (like lead), or removal of dissolved particles (Fluoride or nitrates).

Additional Cost:

This filter typically requires replacement annually. Replacement of filters will ensure you to continue with the highest quality water possible.  The whole house water filtration system allows customization such as adding a whole house sediment filter, water softener, water conditioner, or fluoride removal tank. This could mean additional filters could be needed depending on the water quality of your location. (see picture below)

What are Chloramines?

Chloramines are used to control bacterial growth in distribution systems and to reduce the formation of trihalomethanes (THMs). However, there are concerns over chloramines in the water supply and its by-products. Chloramine vapors and its disinfection byproducts can accumulate in indoor air and concentrate in an enclosed area such as a shower stall, small bathroom, kitchen, or apartment (see Toxic Showers and Baths).

The challenge of chloramine and other difficult contaminants has led to the production of a modified carbon called catalytic carbon. Catalytic carbon is a special processed filter medium designed to greatly enhance carbon’s natural ability to promote chemical changes in contaminants. Standard filter carbon reduces contaminants in two ways. It “absorbs” chemicals by trapping and holding them to a smaller degree and “chemisorbs” contaminants by changing them to something harmless. Chlorine, for example, can be “catalyzed” to harmless chloride.

Catalytic carbon retains conventional carbon’s ability to adsorb contaminants, but it also possesses greatly enhanced capacity to catalyze and promote beneficial chemical reactions. It is by catalytic action that chloramine is reduced.
